Reduce Processing Fees and Gain Reconciliation Benefits
Visa’s new Commercial Enhanced Data Program (CEDP) is designed to improve the quality of transaction data for Level 3 payments by offering reduced processing rates to participating U.S. merchants. Taking effect in October 2025, this program replaces Visa’s L3, LT incentive rates with CEDP rates, impacting how acquirers/processors and their B2B clients handle transaction data.
Simply put, CEDP rewards accurate, detailed data with lower fees and penalizes the use of default or incorrect data by charging higher standard rates. This makes data quality and accuracy more important than ever in order to qualify for the cost savings and reconciliation benefits.
Reducing Required Data Fields from over 20 to Just 5
With CEDP, Visa is moving from more than twenty required data fields to just five essential line items, which simplifies requirements but raises the standard on data accuracy.
The five required line items are:
- Line-Item Description – A brief but accurate description of the product or service.
- Quantity – How many units or items are purchased.
- Price – The per-unit cost.
- Tax Amount/Rate – Specifically capturing applicable taxes, if any.
- Merchant-Specific Data (e.g., Customer Code) – An identifier that ties the transaction to a project, department, or customer.
Let’s look at how your business can benefit from CEDP.
Access to More-Accurate Data for Informed Decision-Making
Visa’s CEDP provides your business with greater access to accurate, easy-to-use data, which can be imported into your backend systems to:
- Improve forecasting and internal compliance
- Negotiate better terms with suppliers
- Scan for cardholder misuse or abuse
- Simplify expense reconciliation and internal audits
- Deliver data directly to endpoints
Bottom line: Access to more accurate data gives your business better decision-making capabilities, improved efficiency and greater financial control.
Savings on Credit Card Processing Fees
The new CEDP program provides immediate interchange incentives only to merchants that have been verified to consistently deliver good quality data that meet the enhanced data field specification standards.
Bottom line: Merchants that meet these criteria receive interchange incentives in the form of rate reductions. See our previous blog on CEDP for specifics.
